Today, however, I drew the line. I am sick of Vevo
I was listening to Mumford and Sons and saw a link to another video. The video was one of youtube's Promoted videos, it was being advertised for me to watch it. It was hosted by Parlaphone, the record company that released the song. Should be fine to watch, right?
wrong
Turns out the video contained copyrighted materials from Vevo and is blocked in my region.
This is stupid. The record company owns the copyright. The artist made the music, yet Vevo has the right to say that only THEY can distribute it online. yeah, i suppose thats how distribution rights normally work, but this goes against the only good thing about vevo. Vevo was supposed to make video surfing EASIER. Instead, its finally got to the point where finding music an videos is a pain in the ass. If its on Vevo, its slow. If someone else posted it, even a legit poster, its removed. There are ads everywhere.
The thing is, there is no more "you" in youtube. If there was, Vevo would never have existed. Youtube would never have enforced such strong copyright rules.
itd be like in the old days, where the most viewed video was a comedian dancing filmed on what looked like someones personal camera and a video of a man giving out hugs. Now all the top viewed videos are corporate released Music Videos. promoted videos and partner videos make actually getting a hit video difficult.
I, for one, am sick of it
